Thinking up The Secret of Rover
Rachel wrote The Secret of Rover because she wanted to invent a story that was shaped like a check mark.
What does that mean?!?
It means this: At the beginning of the story, Rachel wanted her characters to have almost everything. Then she wanted them to lose it all – fast. After that she wanted them to get it all back. Finally, she wanted them to get something extra, so they would end up with more than what they started with.
That’s like a check mark: down, up, and then beyond:
Lots of exciting stories are shaped that way. If you can think of another one, send the title to Rachel at rachel@secretofrover.com.
